The Lake Mendota Environmental Observatory (LaMeEO) project is a collaborative effort between UW-Madison's Center for Limnology, Space Science and Engineering Center, and Civil and Environmental Engineering Department. These groups will share data gathered from an observational buoy deployed at Lake Mendota's Deep Hole through the summer of 2008. Equipped with an array of remote sensing equipment, the buoy will provide researchers from each group with high resolution data regarding the aquatic and atmospheric conditions at the Deep Hole. This data, along with the data gathered via traditional sampling methods will allow researchers to answer a number of science questions about lake metabolism and life cycling in the lake. It will also allow the group to refine the synthesis of these new remote sensing techniques and traditional sampling methods, so as to guide future collaborative studies where such remote sensing techniques could prove invaluable.
